bnq certified systems
The Ontario Building Code (OBC) implemented changes to the requirements for Treatment Units as outlined in Article 8.6.2.2, which took effect January 1, 2017. These changes include the removal of Supplementary Standard SB-5 for Approved Treatment Units, and a new reference to the CAN/BNQ 3680-600 standard for certification of treatment units. Follow the links below to find details on the treatment technologies that have been certified under this standard. In addition to these treatment units, there are other systems that have been approved under the Building Materials Evaluation Commission (BMEC- a regulatory agency under the Ontario Building Code) that are also listed below.
BMEC
The Building Material Evaluation Commission (BMEC) is a regulatory agency authorized under the Building Code Act whose mandate is to examine the use of innovative materials, systems, building designs and issue authorization for use province-wide.
The BMEC has approved new technologies which are known as BMEC Authorized Systems. All currently approved systems provide aerobic treatment and include a septic tank with effluent filter and special dispersal pipe and sand bed system to treat wastewater.
